St Anne's is a mixed choir of men, women and children. We lead the singing on Sundays at the Morning Service at 10.15am and Evensong at 6.30pm. We sing the anthems at special services and also lead a candle-lit Carol Service at Christmas and carols at old peoples' homes in the parish. We also sometimes sing at weddings and funerals.
Our Choir Director and Organist is Peter Howard. Choir practice is on Friday evenings - children at 7pm and adults at 7.30pm. New members are always welcome!
The hymn books used at all services are Ancient & Modern New Standard or Songs of Fellowship. On 2nd and 4th Sundays for Parish Communion we sing settings by our organist, Peter Howard. For Morning Prayer on the 3rd Sunday and Evensong, settings of the psalms and canticles from the Psalter are chosen. We also sing anthems at special services, alternative arrangements of hymns and descants.
We hope the congregation enjoy and are uplifted by the music and are encouraged to participate in the service by a combination of familiar and new music.
You can also find out about the organs and the bells at St Anne's, or find links to some electronic hymnals in our Link Archive.
Pam Whitling and Peter Howard have recorded a CD at St. Anne's featuring a variety of music, including pieces by Schumann, J S Bach, Massenet, Daniel Purcell and some South American Folk music. Pam plays the flute and treble and tenor recorders, and Peter plays the organ, harpsichord and keyboard. Please contact us if you would like to buy a copy!
